View this email in your browser August 22, 2024 Inside this edition: Multiple people injured in fight at immigration facility, family of teen who died by suicide urges external review of State College schools’ bully policies, and Trump assassination attempt exposes long-standing flaws in Secret Service protections. ‘DEEPLY CONCERNING’ The Centre Daily Times’ Bret Pallotto reports that three people were stabbed and transported to the hospital earlier this week after a fight at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, an immigration facility in Clearfield County. District Attorney Ryan Sayers told the CDT that the fight was “detainee on detainee.” The news outlet also reports that no employees were injured. The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania filed a civil rights complaint against the facility last month, claiming people held there “endure unconstitutional, punitive, and harmful conditions” including a lack of health care. It called the incident “deeply concerning,” per the CDT. “While ICE detention should not exist, to the extent ICE keeps people behind bars, they must keep people safe and do so in a way that adheres to the most basic standards of dignity and rights,” said Vanessa Stine, senior staff attorney for immigrant rights at the ACLU of Pennsylvania.  ☕️ NOW BREWING Spotlight PA’s special light roast coffee, “Headline Brews,” is available for pre-order.
