High society, take two, sliding scores, House wing, hazard hill, big bills, Hershey's own, and money trees. It's Wednesday. This is PA Post.
ON THE RITZ

Live from New York ... it's Pennsylvania's premier political gala.

This weekend, lawmakers and special interests will gather in New York City for several days of fundraisers, black-tie soirees, and posh parties.

The annual Pennsylvania Society fête, criticized by good-government groups as everything that's wrong with politics as usual, has seen attendance drop in recent years, but PennLive reports it's eyeing a comeback.

The number of soirees is up this year, regulars say, the Waldorf Astoria is back in the mix, and Democratic Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro is set to show after repeated opt-outs by his predecessor, Gov. Tom Wolf.

THE CONTEXT: Wolf won't be there again this year, and neither will U.S. Sen.-elect John Fetterman and his tuxedo T-shirt.

Wolf, a frequent no-show, reportedly supports calls to bring Pennsylvania Society and its economic impact to Pennsylvania.

Organizers, citing tradition, say that's not happening.

Also expected in the crowds this time: David McCormick, who's said to be eyeing a run for Pennsylvania's other U.S. Senate seat in 2024.

Criticisms of the event are sure to continue. Last year, Spotlight PA looked at the existential question looming over the affair — "Is Pennsylvania Society an anachronism?" — and found strong and differing opinions.

» In celebration of #GivingTuesday, a new generous donor has offered to TRIPLE all gifts to Spotlight PA all week long. Don't miss your chance to make a tax-deductible gift now and get 3X
