Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his running mate, and at least nine third-party candidates are facing challenges that could see them kicked off of Pennsylvania’s Nov. 5 general election ballot.
The petition against Kennedy, an independent candidate and member of a dynastic Democratic family, was apparently filed with the backing of Clear Choice. The super PAC was formed by allies of President Joe Biden to challenge third-party and independent candidates.
In a state where recent presidential elections have been decided by just tens of thousands of votes, Kennedy’s appearance on the Pennsylvania ballot could affect whether Democrat Kamala Harris or Republican Donald Trump takes home the state’s coveted electoral votes.

  IRIZARRY CASE: Mark Dial, the former Philadelphia police officer who fatally shot motorist Eddie Irizarry last year, has been released from jail to await trial following prosecutors withdrawing a first-degree murder charge, the AP reports. Dial now faces third-degree murder and other charges, the latest in a series of turns for the case.  NATIONAL PROFILE: Gov. Josh Shapiro may have lost the veepstakes, but political observers tell PennLive (paywall) that the experience has improved his national profile. They cited his "extraordinary" speech at Harris' rally in Philadelphia on the same day he found out that he wouldn't be the VP pick. ABOLISH PLAN: Republican council members in Wrightsville want to get rid of the borough's voting wards, arguing that it's too costly to redraw them. The York Dispatch (paywall) reports that some community members believe the plan to implement at-large council elections is a ploy to get rid of Democratic members.  TANK CARS: Noise from venting tank cars in a Cresson rail yard has pushed nearby residents to complain to local, state, and federal authorities, the Altoona Mirror reports. The sound "resembles the noise of a concentrated stream from a garden hose against an empty aluminum drum," the outlet writes. Ouch. |

LOAN DEBT: The Shapiro administration recently announced a $22 million investment to wipe out student loan debt for an estimated 400 practitioners in the substance use disorder industry, ABC27 reports.
'HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT': U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D., Pa.) called Oakmont teacher Marc Fogel's imprisonment in Russia "an outrage" and says he's pushing the Biden admin to prioritize Fogel's release, TribLIVE reports.
RETIREMENT PLANS: Harrisburg Area Community College President John Sygielski plans to retire in 2025, LNP | LancasterOnline reports. He has served as the college's president since 2011.
